When you think of CEOs and managers, you tend to picture someone talkative, outgoing, and extremely extroverted, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a successful business owner as an introvert. Many amazing people in powerful positions are very much introverted. If you are looking to start a business but worry that your disposition might hold you back, fear not. Play to Your Strengths

Ok, so you might not be a fan of public speaking or large conferences, but that doesn’t mean you can’t succeed. Instead of opting for these more public forums, choose something a little more intimate or even remote when it comes to making connections. Perhaps you are a great writer, so write emails instead of meeting face to face when possible. 

 

Choose Your Partners Wisely

As the CEO of your company, it’s essential to choose a CFO or partner who is extroverted, that way you can complement each other. If you work with someone who loves public speaking and press, allow them to handle those aspects of the business while you focus on the more behind the scenes parts. Sometimes it is best to have one extrovert and one introvert on a team so that the two parties are not always competing for the same spotlight. 

 

Learn to be Uncomfortable

Let’s face it, as a business owner, there are going to be times when you will be uncomfortable, as it is part of the job. Nonetheless, you must continue to challenge and test yourself. Rather than accepting the fact that you are introverted and refusing to go to large events, consider challenging yourself and going outside of your comfort zone. Acceptance of permanency is one of the worst things you can do as a business owner. Push yourself to be better when possible, but don’t allow your company to flounder by taking on too much or engaging in interactions that are bound to be unsuccessful. 

 

As you can now see, building a business as an introvert isn’t impossible; it has been done many times.
